Community-focused
Michelle Krieger (2020)
Michelle is currently an Advisor with the
Behavioural Insights Team (colloquially known as
the "nudge unit"). BIT is a social purpose
consultancy that uses behavioural science to make
people's lives better. She works across many
areas, including projects on risk communication,
public health, anti-racism in employment, anti-
corruption, green commuting behaviours, and
gender bias in computing.
Mia Sisic (2019)
Mia is currently a post-doctoral fellow at St. Mary's
University in the Sociology and International
Development Studies departments. She is working
on a CIHR-funded project “Violence Against
Women Migrants and Refugees: Analysing Causes
and Effective Policy Responses”. This international
(joint EU-Canada), mixed-method research project
takes an intersectional approach to understanding
sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) in the
context of migration, analysing the ways in which
insufficient policies and conditions of reception,
discrimination and diverse inequalities interact to
make certain women more vulnerable to SGBV
and less able to access support. The international
Consortium consists of teams from six different
countries.
Natasha Koustova (2017)
Natasha’s current position is Research &
Evaluation Specialist at Girl Guides of Canada -
Guides du Canada. In this role she works with the
Girls First team on improving Girl Guides'
programming and delivery through research
support and program evaluation. This also
involves running a large participant pool,
conducting national surveys and focus groups, and
providing research and analysis to support senior
management in decision making and strategic
planning.
Giavana Jones (2015)
Giavana’s first role post-PhD was as the
Programme Director of Scholarships and College
Success at the non-profit Layford Cay foundation
in the Bahamas. Here she was responsible for the
management of an existing scholarship
programme. This included recruitment, support
and tracking of award recipients; data collection
and management; and reporting as well as the
development, implementation and evaluation of
pilot first generation college success programme.
Gia is currently an Assistant Professor of
Psychology at the University of The Bahamas
where she engages in teaching, research,
community service.
Barat Wolfe (2013)
Barat’s first position after graduate school was as
Visiting Assistant Professor of St. Lawrence
University in Canton, NY where she taught
Introduction to Psychology, Health Psychology,
and Cultural Psychology to undergraduates. Barat
is currently an Assistant Professor in Applied
Psychology at the State University of New York at
Canton (SUNY Canton) in Canton, NY where she is
also the Curriculum Coordinator for the program.
She teaches undergraduates Introduction to
Psychology, Social Psychology, Research Methods,
Workplace Psychology, and Personality.
Katherine Dunham (1997)
Katherine taught as an Adjunct Professor in
psychology at the University of Windsor for one
year after completing her doctorate. In 1998 she
was hired for her current position as a faculty
member in psychology at SUNY Plattsburgh. She is
now a tenured Associate Professor and
department co-chair for Psychology at SUNY
Plattsburgh. She continues to apply what she
learned at Windsor through various applied
research projects over the years and in her
teaching on a regular basis.
Darryl Hill (1997)
After graduation in 1997 Darryl worked at the
University of Windsor as an adjunct, teaching
classes in the Psychology and Sociology
departments. Then, Darryl taught at Concordia
University in Montreal and Hobart and William
Smith Colleges in upstate New York. Currently, Dr.
Hill is a Professor at the College of Staten Island,
City University of New York in Psychology and
Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, and a
Professor at the City University of New York
Graduate Center in Basic and Applied Psychology.
Health-focused
Courtney Williston (2017)
Courtney is currently working in the role of Mental
Health Specialist at the Windsor-Essex County
Health Unit. Her role involves supporting strategic
partnerships and working as part of a multi-
disciplinary team within a population health
promotion framework. Courtney’s role involves the
provision of research and analysis support; the
planning, design, development, and evaluation of
community mental health programs, services,
communication campaigns and policies; and the
development of mental health-related training
programs.
Sandra Gotovac (2017)
Following the completion of her PhD, Sandra’s
became Project Coordinator for the Trans Youth
Can! project at Schulich Medical School at Western
University. She works with a research team on a
multi-year, multi-site research project, managing
recruitment, data collection, and data analysis;
and is responsible for navigating multiple
stakeholder relationships. She is also involved in
hiring and training research assistants and is
involved in community consultations and outreach.
Shayna Skakoon Sparling (2017)
Shayna holds a postdoctoral research fellowship at
the University of Guelph and she is cross
appointed with the Ontario HIV Treatment
Network. She is also working as a sessional
lecturer with the University of Guelph and the
University of Toronto.
Marc Frey (2016)
Marc’s first position was as the Performance
Improvement and Accountability Coordinator at
the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit. which
involved participation in strategic planning,
performance management, and continuous quality
improvement efforts. Marc’s current role is
Manager of Planning and Strategic Initiatives Team
at the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit, which
involves managing an interdisciplinary team
focused on developing and implementing strategic
processes and program improvements across the
organization The team plays a lead role in
supporting the development tools for operational
planning, creating links to the organization's
strategies.
Christin Moeller (2016)
Christin Moeller’s first role after graduation is
Benefits Realization (Evaluation) Lead at
TransForm Shared Services Organization. In this
role, she works in partnership with healthcare
providers in Southwest Ontario to identify clinical
and organizational benefits associated with the
use of Electronic Health Records systems. This is a
research and evaluation role within the applied
health sector.
Sobia Ali-Faisal (2014)
Sobia’s first position after graduate school was as
a post-doctoral fellow in the School of Kinesiology
and Health Science at York University, and in the
Program in Public Health at Stony Brook
University. She was the study coordinator of a
hospital based randomized controlled trial testing
the effectiveness of a patient navigator program
on increasing cardiac rehabilitation use among
cardiac patients. Sobia is currently a lecturer in the
Department of Psychology at the University of
Prince Edward Island as well as a post-doctoral
fellow in Public Health at Stony Brook University.
Jennifer Voth Krause (2013)
Jennifer’s first position after graduation was as a
Statistical Analyst and Consultant at the University
Health Network in Toronto, providing statistical
and methodological consultation and services to
multidisciplinary research teams; and conducting
research and knowledge mobilization activities in
the areas of health services, rehabilitation
sciences, population health, health system
performance, and policy development. She has
also worked as sessional lecturer in the
Department of Human Kinetics at the University of
Windsor. Currently, she is a Research Associate at
Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare in Windsor where she
supports staff, physicians, and affiliated
researchers in conducting research, evaluation,
knowledge transfer, and education to improve
rehabilitation and mental health services and
supports for patients and the Windsor-Essex
community.
Melissa St. Pierre (2013)
Melissa’s first role following graduation was a post-
doctoral visitor at York University where she
worked for the LGBTTQI Home Care Access
Research Project as a Research Coordinator and
also taught undergraduate psychology courses.
Melissa currently works as a Research Associate
with the World Health Innovation Network. In this
role, Melissa conducts longitudinal qualitative case
studies that document the process of innovation
adoption and procurement in healthcare and
education. She is involved in managing multiple
stakeholder relationships and in knowledge
transfer activities.
Paula Barata (2004)
Paula’s first role post-graduation was as a
Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University Health
Network, Women’s Health Program, in Toronto.
There she led a number of research studies
including a CIHR funded project on the
psychosocial impact of oncogenic HPV testing in
women with abnormal Pap results. Paula is
currently an Associate Professor in the
Department of Psychology at the University of
Guelph.
Simone Arbour (2003)
Simone’s position was as a research and program
quality coordinator for an addiction treatment
centre. In this role, she was responsible for the
organization's outcome studies and internal quality
assurance and decision support. Simone is
currently a research scientist at Ontario Shores
Her program of research involves recovery from
severe mental illness. She investigates factors that
support service user personal recovery and mental
health system transformation. This involves
recovery measurement and recovery-oriented
practice. Simone is the managing editor for the
first recovery-themed peer reviewed journal, The
Journal of Recovery in Mental Health.
Sherry Grace (2001)
Following graduation, Sherry completed a post-
doctoral fellowship at Toronto Western Hospital,
University Health Network. She is now a full
professor at York University and is also a Senior
Scientist at Toronto Western Hospital.
Julie Fraser (2000)
After graduation, Julie’s first role was as a post-
doc at the University of Windsor in Social Justice
and Sexualities. She then went on to work as a
health promotion specialist, program evaluation
specialist, manager of program evaluation and
communication, and then as senior manager of
the knowledge mobilization division. Julie has
recently opened her own consulting practice
where she conducts program evaluations, applied
research, performance measurement, and
facilitation.
Paul Pilon (1996)
Paul’s first position was with the Windsor-Essex
Health Unit. In this role he was involved with
communications, performance measurement,
basic research, and was the liaison with other
community health organizations. This role
provided many opportunities to connect with
people and participate in having a real impact on
people's lives at a local level. Since then, Paul has
worked for a variety of Federal Government
agencies and departments in Ottawa, including
the Auditor General's Office, the Public Service
Commission, Shared Services Canada, and the
Canadian Intellectual Property Office. The
complexities of non-experimental research and the
statistical methods it requires are easily
transferable to any public or private sector that
performs research. This can be in the form of
program evaluation, business intelligence,
marketing, audit, or public opinion research.
Organizational-focused
Amir Talaei (2016)
Since graduation, Amir has been working for E.M.
Vokes, Ph.D. & Associates as an associate
practitioner. This company focuses on leadership,
organizational development, and change
management and is based in Windsor. Amir is now
the Director of Applied Research at this company
and he has mainly been involved in process
consultation interventions for organizations in
different sectors, organizational change initiatives,
and qualitative data analysis and synthesis.
Joanna Kraft (2013)
Joanna’s first role following graduate school was
as an Organizational Effectiveness Consultant, The
Home Depot (Corporate Headquarters, Atlanta,
GA). Here she developed and validated several
selection assessments, conducted interviews,
observations, and questionnaires, Analyzed and
interpreted data from a variety of surveys and
communicated research findings in reports and
presentations. She also participated as an
assessor and trained as a 360-degree feedback
coach. Joanna is currently Senior Consultant,
Talent & Leadership Development, Lee Hecht
Harrison Knightsbridge (Toronto, ON). In this role,
she partners advises on succession and
assessment to design solutions for clients
including preparing proposal documents. She also
advises clients on leadership assessment,
succession management or leadership
development and provides assessment feedback
sessions to support individuals in creating
development plans. She also mentors junior
consultants including training and providing
feedback on performance.
Andrea Butler (2012)
Andrea’s first role post graduate school was with
HRSG as a Research Analyst/Consultant in
Competency-Based Management. In this role, she
contributed to the development of new products
and services based on current and future CBM
market trends to address client pain points on all
related CBM issues like recruitment, performance
management, succession management, training
and development, and HR planning. Andrea is now
a Director of Competency-based Management
Solutions at HRSG. In this role the HRSG’s
Competency-based Management Practice in key
areas: applied CBM research and measurement,
business development and consulting services
solutions with a focus on the development and
promotion of best and innovative practices in the
field of CBM. She is also responsible for overseeing
the delivery of complex national and international
client projects, professional engagements and
providing business development and sales support
in all areas of CBM practice: selection, training,
career development, succession planning.
Jessica Sartori (2004)
Following the completion of her PhD, Jessica’s first
job was as a Human Factors Consultant at
Humansystems. In this role, she conducted
research on decision-making and building and
maintaining trust in teams for Defense Research
and Development Canada. Jessica is currently the
Director of Quality Assurance at the Windsor-Essex
Children's Aid Society. Her primary role is to
monitor outcomes for children and families
receiving the services of Windsor-Essex Children's
Aid Society and to provide strategic
recommendations for organizational improvement.
Jessica is also an elected Trustee with the Greater
Essex County District School Board representing
wards 1, 2, and 9.
Jamie Gruman (2002)
Jamie’s first position after graduation was as an
instructor in the Department of Management at
the University of Toronto at Scarborough. In this
role, he was primarily responsible for teaching
courses but also required to do research. Jamie’s
current role is Associate Professor of
Organizational Behaviour in the Department of
Management at the University of Guelph. Jamie
also serves as Graduate Coordinator of the
Leadership Stream of the Ph.D. in Management.
He is a frequent speaker at conferences, and
corporate and public events.
Lynn Perreault (2001)
Following graduation, Lynn worked in a variety of
public and private sector roles. She currently runs
her own consulting business where she teaches
entrepreneurial skills to new professionals with a
focus on how people can create and develop their
own opportunities in the modern global climate.
Gail Matheson (2000)
Gail’s first position following her PhD was at
Ceridian where she was the Director of
Organizational Development where she was
responsible for planning, coordinating, and
implementing national organizational development
strategies, including employee engagement,
change management, succession planning,
leadership development, performance culture,
organizational design, and facilitating strategic and
operational planning for the business units of the
organization. She is currently the Executive
Director of Organizational Strategy and
Transformation at the Ministry of Justice and
Solicitor General of Alberta. In this role, she
oversees activities in Finance, Business
Intelligence, Organizational Alignment, Project
Management, IT, strategic Human Resources,
Strategy and Communication, Emergency
Management and Infrastructure. Her work in this
involves significant focus on transformational
change, planning, development, and quality
management.
Janet Mantler (1999)
Janet’s first position after graduate school was
Assistant Professor in Applied Social Psychology,
Department of Psychology, University of
Saskatchewan. Janet is currently Associate
Professor in Organizational Psychology in the
Department of Psychology at Carleton University.
Helen Ofosu (1999)
Helen’s first role following the completion of her
PhD was as a Psychologist at the Personnel
Psychology Centre of the Public Service
Commission of Canada. In this role, she developed
recruitment and selection tools for use by hiring
managers, programs, and organizations. She also
updated, helped to maintain, and trained
assessors on succession planning programs for
economists, policy researchers, middle and senior
managers and played a significant role in the
creation and implementation of the federal
government's screening tests. Helen is currently
an HR Consultant and Career Coach, I/O Advisory
Services. Here she combines the insights gained
from my doctoral training in Industrial /
Organizational (I/O) Psychology with more than
15 years of professional experience to help people
build resilient careers and to help organizations
succeed. With my assistance, employees and
entrepreneurs can make full use of their skills and
abilities to bolster their careers and their results.
She helps organizations select and develop
employees and leaders that suit their culture and
will drive business success. She also helps
organizations minimize the risk of cyber and
insider threats.
